The New Zealand Woodwind Competition 2008

Welcome to the first annual National Woodwind Competition for Primary, Secondary and Tertiary students of the saxophone, flute, clarinet, oboe and bassoon. Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to perform to, as well as receive positive feedback from top New Zealand musicians.

Date : 12-14th September 2008
Venue : The Raye Freedman Arts Centre - Epsom Girls Grammar School - Silver Road - Epsom - Auckland - New Zealand

How to Enter

Primary Woodwind Class - open to students up to and including year 8 Performance time limit : 5 minutes

Secondary Woodwind Class - open to students year 9 to year 13 Performance time limit : 10 minutes

Tertiary Woodwind Class - open to under graduate students Performance time limit : 20 minutes

Entries close : 4th July 2008 (late entries will not be accepted)

Woodwind Competition Judges for 2008

Helen Colthart, Jim Langabeer, Andrew Uren, Alexa Still and Gretchen Dunsmore.

Helen Colthart - flute
Currently runs a flute teaching studio in conjunction with coordinating examinations for the Auckland Centre for Trinity Guildhall.

Gretchen Dunsmore - clarinet
Is currently a tutor in clarinet with the University of Canterbury and was made an Associate of the royal Academy of Music in 2001.

Jim Langabeer - flute, saxophone and clarinet
Is currently performing and recording with several jazz and contemporary music groups, and is also in demand as a conductor, composer, arranger and chamber music tutor.

Alexa Still - flute
Is currently head of Flute and Chair of Woodwind at Sydney conservatorium of Music.

Andrew Uren - bass clarinet
Andrew currently tutors clarinet at Auckland University and 4 Auckland Schools, and is involved in directing various groups as well as workshops and masterclasses.
