Jean-Louis Beaumadier - Bresil 1900
| |
Bresil 1900 features the flute music of three composers who lived in Rio De Janiero during the second half of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century. This was a time of upheaval in Brazil with political and social upheaval, including the abolition of slavery and the proclamation of the Republic. One lesson I often need reminding of is that putting a composer and his or her music into historical context adds tremendously to the understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of their music....

Michael Nyman, Yamamoto Perpetuo for Solo Flute transcribed & performed by Andy Findon
| | Nyman wrote Yamamoto Perpetuo in 1993 for a famous Parisian fashion show as a violin showpiece, and Findon has transformed it into a solo flute performance work. Andy Findon has previously been reviewed in Flute Focus as an amazing flutist and multi-instrumentalist for his Tracked CD, and it is a pleasure to hear him again as a stand-out flute performer. His aim to produce performable music rather than a book of difficult studies has been achieved. The music adds up to over 30 minutes of concert material that will delight and entertain many audiences.

Rachel Brown -Telemann Fantasias for Solo Flute
| | Telemann Fantasias for Solo Flute – Rachel Brown; Uppernote Recordings All flute players know the twelve Telemann Fantasias, which form such an essential part of the solo flute repertoire. These short works are packed with expressive potential – Telemann’s language is complex and condensed, each note serving an essential harmonic function, and each tiny movement conveying a specific yet fleeting mood.

Magnus Irving Båge - "Flute Music"
| | Swedish flautist Magnus Irving Båge’s impressive debut recording combines favourites from the twentieth-century French flute repertoire with some lesser-known works, making it a valuable addition to any flautist’s collection. ...The disc opens with an excellent rendition of two charming miniatures by Sofia Gubaidulina, Sounds of the Forest and Allegro Rustico. Eduard Tubin’s Flute Sonata is a substantial addition to the repertoire, and the third movement is truly beautiful.
