Letters to the Editor

Dear Friends,
For more than 25 years, a group of us have been compiling a flute encyclopedia. It was originally to be published in paper format, but electronic events have overtaken us and we have all become busier too. A few months ago, in conjunction with Just Flutes, the British specialist flute shop, we decided to make available for public use what has been done so far...

The Second Decade

1999-2008 (vol.s 11-20)

TRAVERSO Historical Flute Newsletter

Edited by Ardith Powell, publisher: Folkers & Powell, Pendragon Press, New York copyright 2009 ISBN: 978-1-57647-183-8

This is a simple, soft cover book comprised of TRAVERSO newsletters from the past decade. As you might expect, there are many tantalizingly interesting but small grayscale images and many announcements of events that were immediately a lot less interesting… But for searchable articles on a multitude of topics, this is an invaluable resource for those who are content to read superb contributions of numerous experts to know the latest about historical practice and the flute.

Presented here by the newsletter’s regular editor, Ardal Powell, this includes:

- a comprehensive index

- an additional biography by David Lasocki covering the decade’s important writings on the history of the flute

- and even (but wait… there is more!) a Mac and PC friendly disc of the newsletters in PDF format

This book is absolutely perfect for people like me who genuinely want to read periodicals but usually lose them first, or worse, forget to subscribe!
