Details:

‘Le serpent à sons... Nets’ (The rattlesnake). The three movements relying on inventiveness, improvisation, listening and group play (Intermediate/advanced level). This music proposes exploring extended techniques for the flute, mixing them with classical sounds. The piece is cheerful, convivial, full of surprises, and help the listener to experience differing colors and atmosphere.

The performers are challenged to master and to play these sounds musically. Moreover, they have many occasions to improvise thus changing the piece even as they play it. 1/ The desert: improvisation on visual representation of breath and pizzicato, 2/ The snake: ondulations, double trills and chromatics, 3/ The dance: traditional notation, Mexican inspiration, mix of 6/8 and 3/4. (From piccolo to contrabass but every flutist needs a C flute) Goals of a master class on my work: 1/ Playing the piece well; 2/ To acquire and manipulate the vocabulary and the sounds of the contemporary flute; 3/ To understand how the body is the focus of these technics; 4/ To obtain a soft yet energetic sound for the group; 5/ To improve the technique of everyone through advice and simple exercises worked on in the process of learning the piece; 6/ Experiencing music in a convivial atmosphere.
